Community Confidence is a simulation tool designed to support North Carolina business leaders and community stakeholders when making the difficult decision to reopen their business and community and how to do so safely and with confidence.

Who we are

This initiative is a collaboration between the Digital Health Institute for Transformation (DHIT), the Institute for Convergent Sciences and Innovate Carolina at the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill. This project is being funded by the North Carolina Policy Collaboratory as part of the 2020 COVID-19 Recovery Act.

The Solution

Our machine learning platform has been busy ingesting huge amounts of national and regional data, including:

What you will get

  • A daily dashboard providing real-time intelligence and predictive modeling for business owners and community stakeholders on population health risk, consumer sentiment, and community resiliency
  • Specially tailored recommendations and risk mitigation plans enabling people to conduct business and socialize with confidence
  • Fully transparent data modeling allowing users to interrogate the source, validity, and basis for inclusion in the risk score

Pilot Program

We are piloting the platform with the following counties with the ability to scale to additional counties in North Carolina, and eventually, other states.

  • Ashe

  • Buncombe

  • Gates

  • Mecklenburg

  • New Hanover

  • Robeson

  • Wake

These counties were selected based on their diversity with respect to a multitude of factors: overall health outcomes, geography, rurality, economic distress, prosperity zones, population density, racial diversity, age, education level, and number of COVID-19 cases.
